Activision came to us with a holiday campaign for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 a la Bad Santa, that demanded a lightning speed turnaround. The campaign was awarded on the Friday before the Wednesday shoot.
The intent was to craft a visually dynamic viewing experience, as if audiences were stumbling upon many different perspectives–iPhone videos, vertical formats, found footage–of the chaos that unfolded once the classic Call of Duty Character “The Replacer” replaced a mall Santa.
Kelsey Taylor’s intentional direction and Peter Stormare’s comedic improv created an environment of creative flow on set. What resulted was a viral social media experience decked with precise comedic timing and a hilarious subversion of a classic Christmastime tradition.
