HLK’s Empty Not Closed trailer, created in partnership with ArchCity Defenders, has been short-listed in the Short Form Video, Social Justice and Social Movement Campaign categories at the 10th Annual Shorty Impact Awards. Serving as a preview for the forthcoming documentary Empty Not Closed: Disappearing the Workhouse for Good, the piece honored years of activism that led to the closure of St. Louis' Workhouse jail and rallied public awareness to ensure its demolition. Through powerful storytelling, archival footage and cinematic design, the trailer captured both the urgency and emotion of a community’s pursuit of justice — reinforcing that “empty” doesn’t mean “resolved.”
